What to Do in The Event of a Motorcycle Accident:

  •  Call the police and an ambulance, if needed. Give a brief statement to the investigating officer providing your version of how the accident occurred.  Make certain that a police report is filed.
  • Obtain the other involved driver’s name, address and tag number of the vehicle they are driving. If possible, take photographs of the vehicles before they are moved from the scene.  Obtain the name of the other driver’s insurance company and policy number.  Do not talk to the other driver’s insurance company or sign any documents for them!
  • Identify anyone who may have witnessed the accident. Obtain their name, address and telephone number together with their place of employment.
  • It is important, if you are injured, that you seek immediate medical treatment. Remember to report all injuries to your treating physicians no matter how minor they might seem at the time.  If you fail to do so, and complications develop later, the insurance companies will move to establish that this was a pre-existing condition for which they are not responsible.
  • You should immediately contact your insurance company and advise them of the accident even if you do not make a claim under your policy. This is important as you are contractually required to do so if you want to later seek coverage.  Remember, the other driver may tell the police they have insurance when in fact they do not.
  • Contact Alabama Biker Law for information on your rights with regard to property damage, medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and any disability suffered.
  • Remember, the other driver’s insurance company will immediately assign the case to their adjusters to begin their investigation and prepare a defense to your claim.
